The European Union's REACH Regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) — Regulation EC 1907/2006 — represents the most comprehensive chemical management framework ever implemented in any jurisdiction. For synthetic leather, the most immediately relevant provisions are Article 33 (communication on SVHCs — Substances of Very High Concern in articles) and the restrictions in Annex XVII that cover specific hazardous substances including certain azo dyes, phthalate plasticizers (for PVC-containing materials), formaldehyde, heavy metals, and flame retardants. Article 33 of REACH requires that articles containing SVHCs above 0.1% w/w must be disclosed to customers upon request. Our supplier qualification program requires all raw material suppliers to provide REACH declarations for their products, and we maintain a complete Bill of Materials (BoM) for each production specification that allows us to trace substance pathways through the production process. This supply chain visibility is documented and available to customers for their own compliance reporting and due diligence purposes.

The REACH SVHCs candidate list is updated twice yearly by ECHA, and REACH Annex XVII restrictions are periodically amended to add new substances.
