Synthetic leather material certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, verifying freedom from harmful substances for close-contact use.
In the textile and leather materials market, claims of safety and environmental responsibility are made by virtually every supplier. What distinguishes genuine commitment to product safety from marketing assertion is independent, rigorous third-party certification — and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 represents the most widely recognized and rigorously maintained such certification in the global textile and leather industry. Our OEKO-TEX Certified Leather Material carries active OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification across our production range, providing customers and their consumers with an independently verified assurance of product safety that goes well beyond what self-declaration can offer.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is a product certification system for textile and leather articles of all processing stages. The certification is issued by independent OEKO-TEX member institutes — including Hohenstein Institut in Germany, TESTEX in Switzerland, and BTTG in the United Kingdom — following laboratory testing of product samples to a comprehensive and regularly updated list of limit values covering over 100 substances. The test schedule is not static: OEKO-TEX updates the standard annually to incorporate new scientific findings on substance toxicity and regulatory changes, and certified products must maintain compliance with the current test schedule to retain their certification.
The certification classes within OEKO-TEX Standard 100 reflect the intended use and body contact level of the certified product. Product Class I covers baby and toddler articles — the highest safety class, applicable to products used by children under 36 months who may place items in their mouths. Product Class II covers articles with direct skin contact such as underwear, bed linen, and clothing. Product Class III covers articles without direct skin contact, and Product Class IV covers decoration articles. Our standard production range carries Class II certification for direct skin contact applications, and selected product specifications have achieved Class I certification for baby goods applications.
The substance groups tested under OEKO-TEX Standard 100 are comprehensive: pH value, color fastness (to perspiration, water, rubbing, and saliva for Class I), formaldehyde, prohibited azo colorants, pesticide residues, heavy metals (lead, cadmium, chromium VI, mercury, and others), phthalate plasticizers (tested for 18 specific phthalates including DEHP, DBP, BBP, and DINP), halogenated carriers, biocidal products, UV stabilizers, and flame retardants. For our PU-based synthetic leather, the formaldehyde and azo dye tests are particularly relevant, and our consistent certification across all relevant substance groups reflects the systematic effort we have invested in raw material selection and process chemistry optimization.
For our customers, the OEKO-TEX certification provides tangible commercial value beyond regulatory compliance. Consumer research consistently demonstrates that OEKO-TEX certification positively influences purchase intent, particularly for products in sensitive categories — children's goods, intimate apparel, healthcare products, and eco-positioned lifestyle brands. Retailers including major European fashion and home goods chains increasingly require OEKO-TEX certification as a baseline supplier qualification, making it a market access requirement rather than merely a differentiator.
We provide customers with the necessary documentation to use the OEKO-TEX certification in their own product labeling and marketing. Licensed use of the OEKO-TEX label on finished products requires that the final product itself undergoes certification — a process we actively support by providing the required material test documentation and working with our customers' certification bodies to streamline the finished product testing process.
